Dear Patrick Ohnewein
The first edition of the Youth Hacking 4 Freedom (YH4F) contest was a great success and we were overwhelmed by all the great and well-coded projects.
This contest gives youngsters the chance to compete in a fun way, while also learning more about Free Software, improving their coding skills, and even winning monetary prizes.
The six winners for the first edition of YH4F are: * The Ultimate Hacker Award went to Stavros and his project SignTrack, * The Elite Hacker Award was awarded to Miquel and his Smart Table Assistant * The Awesome Hacker Award was granted to Artur and his project Aspinwall, * The Ultimate Girl Hacker Award went to Ekaterina for Music Companion, * The Special Hacker Award: Coming from War Zone was awarded to Mark for Sharik, * The Youngest Hacker Award was granted to Héctor for LibreHomework.
To find out more about the winning projects please have a look at our news item: https://fsfe.org/news/2022/news-20221118-01.html
Furthermore we produced a short video about the award ceremony and the experience of the young contestants, who won the first edition of the YH4F competition. You can watch the video on our Peertube instance:

After the great success of the first edition, the FSFE is launching the second Youth Hacking 4 Freedom competition. The contest coding period will start on the 1st of January, 2023, registration being open until the last day of this year, the 31st of December, 2022. If you want to help young people to join the contest, please share the news about YH4F with them. You can do so via your preferred social media channel, with a mailing to your local school, hackerspace or youth club. You find all related information on the YH4F website: https://yh4f.org
The FSFE is dedicated to work on making the competition an inclusive experience for everybody. Therefore we encourage everyone, no matter of what gender or ethnicity, to join the contest.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. Thank you very much!
Best regards, Bonnie Mehring
