Hi, I'm Scott from Seattle in the US. My girlfriend is currently studying in Bolzano and needs to buy a new computer (ideally a netbook). Do any of you have a suggestion where she should go? Where could I order it online for her? Would amazon.com work?
Thanks for your help. I too am a Linux user. it is very cool to see people from around the world using Linux. My website is tannewt.org and has more information about some Linux projects I've done. Thanks, Scott

Around Bolzano are some retail dealer, which have an online store as well, e.g. microstore.it, mitasworld.it. A usual procedure is to order online and pick up offline which saves the shipping costs.
Another alternative is ebay.it. amazon.com has nice prices, but I think the shipping is not possible or at least the shipping costs are quite high. You have to try it ;)
One problem which should be regarded is the keyboard layout. Usually only german and italian keyboards are available.
Kind Regards,
ando

Hi,
the easiest solution would probably be to just walk into a retail store and buy one.
Andreas mentioned the "Microstore" already. "Trony" might be a tad more expensive but have about 10-15 different models on stock at any time (= better if she needs one immediately).
US keyboard layout has to be always ordered extra. Generally the retailers won't/can't order it for low-end models.
Bye, Chris.
Hi,
I'd recommend you to buy it from www.amazon.co.uk ==> best choice, english keyboard layout, reasonable prices and very low s&h rates to Italy.
Ciao ciao HJ

Hi Scott, does your girlfriend study at the Free University of Bozen? The ICT department has some special offers for students: http://www.unibz.it/en/ict/ComputerInternet/network/UniversityNotebook/
Greets, Andreas
Thanks everyone! I think I'll look at one of the Amazon.com stores. She is at the Free University. I'm also coming to visit in a few weeks and can bring a new one with me.
Thanks for pointing out the keyboard issue. I hadn't thought of it. :-)
Thanks and keep up the good Linux work, Scott

Hi Scott. I have one more suggestion: ask your girlfriend if she is in need of typing in german or not. In such case I will suggest considering a german keyboard anyhow: once you get used to it, it's easier to type in english on a german keyboard instead the opposite, even if german keyboard have a different behaviour in uppercup/number mode. Greatings, diego
