Ciao Lista,
volevo segnalare a chiunque fosse interessato che la settimana prossima, da
lunedì a giovedì, porteremo avanti lo sviluppo di mixare (progetto free ed
open source per Android e iPhone) al TIS.
Il tutto si concluderà venerdì quando durante l'SFSCon presenterò la nostra
esperienza "un anno dopo" (qualche mese in più in realtà) l'inizio di questa
avventura.
Sono benvenuti gli sviluppatori (! :-) ma anche simpatizzanti e curiosi che
volessero passare di là. Se avete dubbi o domande chiedete pure! I dettagli

Ciao a tutti,
ieri se ne parlava e ora m'e' venuto in mente che vi avevo
detto che avrei mandato un email in lista.
Il client java che viene usato da eclim per fare il bridging e'
NailGun[1].
E' spieagto anche qui[2]
Quando finalmente riusciro' a dedicarmi anche a questo progetto
magari vi sapro' dire qualcosa in piu' rispetto ai dettagli di
come funziona.

parlando ieri con Patrick Ohnewein si ipotizzava di organizzare un
60-minutes su Hadoop presso il TIS prima che io mi trasferisca (1 dicembre).
I tempi sono stretti ma io sono disponibile. Quanti di voi sarebbero

* WHAT: Hadoop - A Hands-on Introduction
The objective of this seminar is to give the audience an overview of the
Hadoop framework and a basic understanding on how to write MapReduce
programs.
“The Apache™ Hadoop™ project develops open-source software for reliable,
scalable, distributed computing. The Apache Hadoop software library is a
framework that allows for the distributed processing of large data sets
across clusters of computers using a simple programming model. It is
designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines, each
offering local computation and storage. Rather than rely on hardware to
deliver high-avaiability, the library itself is designed to detect and
handle failures at the application layer, so delivering a
highly-availabile service on top of a cluster of computers, each of
which may be prone to failures.”[http://hadoop.__apache.org

Concretely we will give an introduction about the architecture of an
Hadoop application, why and when it’s useful to use Hadoop and how the
programming paradigm works. We will introduce the Hadoop Streaming
interface which allows us to write MapReduce programs in any language.
Later we will go through real-world examples from typical NLP problems
such as word co-occurrences, cosine similarity, etc. to show how Hadoop
can be useful to scale these algorithms over big datasets. The Hadoop
Streaming interface gives us the opportunity to work on the examples
with languages of our choice (i.e. python, Java).
* Elia Bruni is a PhD student at Center of Language, Interaction
andComputation (CLIC) at CIMeC, University of Trento. His research is in
the areas of NLP and computer vision.
* Claudio Martella is a PhD student at the Large-Scale Distributed
Systems group of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where he works on
Complex Networks and Distributed Graph Processing.
