Das Debian-Projekt freut sich, das offizielle Release von Debian GNU/Linux
Version 3.1 Codename »Sarge« nach beinahe dreijähriger fortlaufender
Entwicklung bekanntzugeben. Debian GNU/Linux ist ein freies Betriebssystem,
das insgesamt elf Prozessor-Architekturen unterstützt, KDE-, GNOME- und
GNUstep-Arbeitsumgebungen enthält, kryptographische Software bietet, dem
FHS v2.3 entspricht und Software, die für die LSB entwickelt wurde,
unterstützt.
Mit der Entwicklung des neuen Debian-Installers bietet dieses Release eine
neue, modulare und fortschrittliche Installationsroutine mit integrierter
Hardware-Erkennung und Unterstützung für unbeaufsichtigte Installationen.
Die Installation ist in etwa dreißig Sprachen verfügbar und ermöglicht eine
Konfiguration des X-Servers für viele Grafikkarten.
Das Task-Auswahlsystem wurde überarbeitet und flexibler gestaltet. Das
debconf-Hilfsprogramm wurde in die meisten Pakete, die konfiguriert werden
müssen, eingebaut und macht dies einfacher und benutzerfreundlicher.
Debian GNU/Linux kann von verschiedenen Installationsmedien wie DVDs, CDs,
USB-Sticks, ein paar Disketten oder über das Netzwerk installiert werden.
Es kann nun heruntergeladen werden und wird bald auf DVD und CD-ROM bei
den zahlreichen Händlern verfügbar sein:

Debian GNU/Linux läuft auf vielen Computern: von Palmtops und Handheld-
Systemen bis zu Supercomputern, und auf nahezu allem dazwischen. Insgesamt
werden elf Architekturen unterstützt, inklusive Motorola 68k (m68k), Sun
SPARC (sparc), HP Alpha (alpha), Motorola/IBM PowerPC (powerpc), Intel
IA-32 (i386) und IA-64 (ia64), HP PA-RISC (hppa), MIPS (mips, mipsel),
ARM (arm) und IBM S/390 (s390).
Dieses Release enthält einige aktuelle größere Softwarepakete, wie das
K Desktop Environment 3.3 (KDE), die GNOME-Arbeitsumgebung 2.8, den
GNUstep-Desktop, XFree86 4.3.0, GIMP 2.2.6, Mozilla 1.7.8, Galeon 1.3.20,
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2, Firefox 1.0.4, PostgreSQL 7.4.7, MySQL 4.0.24
und 4.1.11a, die GNU-Compiler-Collection 3.3.5 (GCC), Linux-Kernel
Versionen 2.4.27 und 2.6.8, Apache 1.3.33 und 2.0.54, Samba 3.0.14,
Python 2.3.5 und 2.4.1, Perl 5.8.4, und vieles mehr.
Dies ist das erste Debian-Release, das OpenOffice.org (1.1.3) enthält.
Es bietet auch integrierte kryptographische Software in der »main«-
Distribution. OpenSSH und GNU Privacy Guard sind in der Standard-
installation enthalten, und starke Verschlüsselung ist in Web-Browsern,
Web-Servern, Datenbanken und vielen anderen Anwendungen, die in diesem
Release verfügbar sind, enthalten.
Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 enthält die Bestrebungen der Debian-Edu/Skolelinux-,
Debian-Med- und Debian-Accessibility-Unterprojekte, die die Anzahl der
bildungsbezogenen Pakete und jener mit einer medizinischen Zuordnung wie
auch der Pakete, die speziell für Leute mit Behinderungen entworfen
wurden, gesteigert haben.
Aktualisierungen auf Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 vom vorhergehenden Release
Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 Codename »Woody« werden automatisch vom aptitude-
Paketverwaltungswerkzeug behandelt und zu einem gewissen Grad ebenso vom
apt-get-Paketverwaltungswerkzeug. Wie immer können Debian-GNU/Linux-Systeme
problemlos auf den aktuellen Stand gebracht werden, direkt, ohne erzwungene

SWPAT: Österreich will nun doch wieder Softwarepatente
Hinter verschlossenen Türen haben die Diplomaten des EU-Rates am Freitag
beschlossen keinerlei Kompromiss bei der Patentierung von Software
einzugehen. Auch Österreich hält nun, wohl wieder das Händchen der Patenten
Deutschen.

Bereits in der ersten Sitzung am 27 Mai hatte Österreich sich gegen die
wesentlichen Forderungen des Parlaments ausgesprochen. Nach den ersten
Informationen die aus Brüsseler Diplomatenkreisen sickern, hat sich dieses
Engagement Österreichs für Softwarepatente nun zur Unterstützung des
deutschen Patentkurses entwickelt.
Die sind ja nicht nur mit dem Willen des EU-Parlaments konfrontiert, sie
müssen auch noch die Aufträge aus den eigenen Parlamenten ignorieren. Das
geht leichter wenn man sich auf die anderen Staaten ausreden kann.

Österreich war lange Zeit eines der treibenden Kräfte hinter
Softwarepatenten. Bereits im Jahr 2000 sollte das Verbot der Patentierung
von Software gestrichen werden um die Rechtsbeugung durch das Europäische
Patentamt zu bestätigen:
"The Austrian delegation hopes, as it stated during the Conference, that
the non-amendment of Article 52(2)(c) will not be taken as a signal to
begin falling behind the existing standard in patent protection for
software."

Österreich hat danach aber seinen Standpunkt geändert. Das BMVIT hatte sich
in der entscheidenden Sitzung des EU-Rates zur Direktive der Stimme
enthalten und die Zurückweisung des Parlaments im Rat nicht unterstützt.
Ein vom FFII veröffentlichtes Protokoll über die erneute Aktivität im Rat
zeigt jedoch: Österreich verlangt nun wieder Patente auf Computerprogramme.

Hello,
Mark September 10th 2005 on your calendar! It is the second annual
Software Freedom Day. We will be staging a range of events around the
world to raise public awareness of Free and Open Source Software.
This is a global grassroots effort, and we invite the Free and Open
Source Software community around the world to join in the celebration
and help spread the word! Over 70 teams joined the celebration in 2004,
organising a range of events at schools, universities and public places.
This year, we have every opportunity to grow and make an even greater
impact on community awareness.
What will happen?
-----------------
You may celebrate the day locally however you would like, but we
encourage you to engage in some sort of outreach activity to spread the
FOSS message in your community. For example, you could organise a
seminar or an installfest or simply invite people to meet up in the park
for a picnic.
If you want to participate, please stop by the SFD website [1] and
register a team so that others in your area can find you and hook up.
Our website and wiki have pictures and reports from some of the SFD2004
events, so you can get an idea of what worked well. If you participated
last year, please join us again, and please share your experiences with
the new teams.
How does it work?
-----------------
As last year, we will prepare special promotional materials for
distribution by the SFD teams. In 2004 this included ISO images of a
custom version of TheOpenCD and a custom version of Knoppix along with
some printed materials. Due to our budget constraints we were only able
to produce CD covers while the local teams did a great job of burning
their own CDs and copying materials.
This year we will create a single CD containing both a Live Linux image
and some Windows-FOSS for this purpose. We have funding from our primary
sponsor for up to 15.000 of our custom CDs shipped out to 150 teams
world-wide! We In addition, other supplies (such as t-shirts and
balloons) will be available, but the quantities and distribution process
of these items is not yet determined (depends in part on the
availability of additional funding).
By June 15th we will provide a simple supply request form where
established teams can request CDs and possibly other materials for SFD.
Be sure to get in your application for supplies before the July 1st
deadline so we can get the supplies produced and distributed in time for
the event.
What can I do?
--------------
The best way to participate is to start forming a SFD team and start
planning local celebrations. Make sure you register as an official team
[1] so you can apply for sponsorship of materials.
We also need help with lots of things on the global level:
Writing: We would appreciate well-written articles about SFD or about
FOSS in general that can be submitted to local media or distributed on
the day. Form letters that can be sent to schools, businesses government
organisation, etc. will also be useful.
Material Design: We have some artwork already, but we need designs for
the SFD 2005 CD labels and covers, as well as T-shirts, balloons,
stickers, or even temporary tattoos! If you or your friends have some
artistic inclinations feel free to pop into the SFD Forums to share your
ideas and your work.
Donations: SFD funds cover the costs of material and logistics support
that we provide. The more funds we have available, the more material and
logistical support we can provide for teams world-wide. So don't feels
shy about donating :) Any surplus funds can be used for advertising in
the week before the event. Donations can be made online at the SFD website.
Getting in touch

temporary mailing list here [2] where people can hook up, but we will
provide more regional lists as the needs arise.

Nell'editor dei runlevel ho abilitato apache perchè si avvii ad ogni
boot, e infatti funziona.
Sono andato nella directory di localhost (srv/www/htdocs/), ho
acchiappato il file index.php e, con click destro, gli ho detto "Apri
con...Konqueror".
Mi chiede con cosa voglio aprirlo, se gli dico di nuovo Konqueror mi
mostra il testo in una nuova finestra.
Ho guardato tutti i libri che ho in casa, forse dipende dalla riga
"LoadModule php4_module /usr/lib/apache2-prefork/libphp4.so"
che non so dove piazzare (dato che in /etc/apache2/ non esiste il file
modules.conf).
Ecco, se qualcuno conosce bene la Suse9.2 e mi sa dire dove piazzare
quella riga, mi fa un favore.

Hallo ich habe mir einen kleiner Videorecorder selber gebastelt. Debian
VDR und eine DVB-S Karte. Nun muss ich aber jedesmal aufstehen um das
Teil einzuschalten. Ich habe im Netz ein Gerät gefunden welches es
ermöglicht den PC mit einer Fernbedienung einzuschalten, leider kann ich
weder löten noch hab ich Ahnung von Elektronik. Gibt es evt. jemanden in
der Liste der das für mich bauen würde?

Spinto dalla disperazione, avevo poi aperto direttamente il file con
Konqueror ma, come prevedevo, mi ha mostrato il codice sorgente.

con Yast. L'ho fatto, ma il risultato non cambia.

Esteban González Pons, spokesman for the Regional Government of Valencia
(Generalitat Valenciana), has announced that the entire regional
administration would migrate to open source software (OSS) during the next
term of the regional parliament, due to start in 2005. Switching to free
software, he said, has become a democratic duty for public administrations.
